I am an assistant professor at University of Tsukuba.
I graduated the doctoral course at the University of Tokyo in March 2014 and acquired a Ph.D. in agricultural sciences.
My research is on the application of spectroscopy and imaging to food and biological materials.
This homepage is meant to introduce you to my research, my background, and a little bit of my private life.
The graduation presentation for bachelor students was held today, and three students from our lab presented their research. They all presented well, and received good questions from the floor. It is always interesting to hear questions from teachers in different fields of research, although it may be difficult for bachelor students to answer them. I used to wonder how teachers can come up with all kinds of questions for everyone, but now I find that I have questions for all students too!
I was appointed guest lecturer at the Tsukuba English Model United Nations (TEMUN), held at University of Tsukuba.
I organized the "8th Summer Research Program in Tsukuba", a joint program between the Graduate schools of Medical Sciences and Life and Environmental Sciences. The program invited mosre than 50 students from overseas, to spend two weeks in University of Tsukuba. The students did a two-week study in university labs, and at the end, there was a presentation from everybody. Organizing this big event was quite a lot of work, but I am happy that the students who came to our university seemed to enjoy it. It was a good chance for the students in our university to work together with international students.
I presented a poster at the annual meeting of the Japanese Society of Agricultural Machinery and Food Engineers, held in Okinawa. The title of my presentation was "蛍光指紋イメージングおよびスペクトル分解によるパイ生地中グルテン・澱粉・バターの可視化". 
I received a message from my professor to "use the next three years to find out what you really want to and have to do". Luckily, the next three years starting from this April is a relativly free period, since I receive my salary and research fund from JSPS. I would like to keep these words in mind and use the next years to make a leap forward towards a full-fledged researcher. 
I graduated from the Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences, The University of Tokyo. The graduation ceremony was held at Ariake Colosseum (the Yasuda lecture hall is currently under construction for earthquake resistance). The message from the university chancellor was: "keep on studying the broad range of liberal arts, not just your area of specialty. In that way, you will be truely free". I also think that this is important, since none of the difficult problems we are facing can be solved by a single are of expertise.
I also received an award from the department chair for my achievements during the doctoral course. It was a great honour, and I would like to thank all the people around me for supporting me through this course.
I have completed my ph.D. thesis, and it has been binded into a formal book. Its title is "Visualization of multiple constituents in food by fluorescence fingerprint imaging". After all the related papers are published, I am planning to make it downloadable from this web site.
I made an oral presentation at the 2013 AACCI (American Association of Cereal Chemists International) annual meeting. The meeting was held in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
After conference hours, I visited the old town where I found beautiful Indian jewelry and took a walk to see the Rio Grande river. Mexican food was great!
I received the "Best Poster Prize" at the annual meeting of the Japan Society for Food Science and Technology. The title of the presentation (in Japanese) was "Visualization of gluten, starch and butter in pie pastry with the fluorescence fingerprint". I also made an oral presentation with the same title.
